Remembrance Island, Fortnite | Too Far Gone

Remembrance Island Launched by Royal Canadian Legion in Fortnite

For many, Remembrance Day means time off work, pinning red felt poppies onto their chest, and standing at attention for a customary bout of The Last Post. But this year, in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion, Fortnite players will be able to connect with the commemoration in a new way: an open invitation to Remembrance Island.

In an earnest effort, players are being encouraged to log into Fortnite‘s creative mode via island code [5053-3302-4847] and experience a virtual homage to Canada’s fallen. Equipped with only a flashlight (and pickaxe of course), players are invited to explore the space and engage the topic from a fresh angle. In addition to the recreation of artifacts, pop-in text provides background information regarding historic sites and battles, like Ypres and Vimy Ridge for example.

“We have to find new ways to reach young people and tell the story of Canadian veterans,” says Freeman D. Chute of the Royal Canadian Legion. “This is a fantastic example of how to do just that.”

At the time of writing, Remembrance Island is still open to visitors. You can read up on the official press release, and find Jadan “Jxdvn” Allen (the island’s creator) on Twitter.
