From the screen of your smartphone, to TV and beyond, we are entering a new era for Fate/Grand Order. The online free-to-play mobile RPG, based on the extremely popular Fate/ franchise developed by Type-Moon, has already had many of its visual novels and other properties developed into television anime. Now, however, it seems that the extremely popular mobile game is receiving its own anime, and movie as well. Astute fans of Fate/ adaptations will know that this isn’t the first time that the game has received the anime treatment. Fate/Grand Order: First Order, was an OVA adaptation of the game’s prologue that aired back in December 2016.
The television anime is set to be produced by CloverWorks, and will premiere in 2019. It will focus on the game’s Babylonia story arc and will be titled, Zettai Maju Sensen Babylonia (The Absolute Frontline in the War Against the Demonic Beasts: Babylonia). The second adaptation will be a two part feature film produced by Production I.G. This [air of movies will focus on the game’s Camelot storyline and will be titled Shinsei Entaku Ryouiki Camelot (The Sacred Round Table Realm: Camelot), individually named Wandering: Argeteram, and Paladin: Argeteram respectively. A teaser for the Babylonia anime adaptation can be found here, however it is currently region locked for Japanese audiences only.
These two story arcs were chosen by fans in a January polling to determine the player base’s favourite quest line, resulting in the selection of Babylonia and Camelo. In the same poll, fans were asked what future projects they would like to see. In similar fashion, a television anime and film adaptation were nominated as the desired project formats.
If you can’t wait for these adaptations to come out and need some animated goodness to fill the void, we have a recommended viewing guide for the Summer 2018 anime season for just such desperate times.
