After watching and waiting in anticipation, with gamers and mainstream media outlets alike speculating as to whether or not the comet would take out Tilted Towers, Season 4 of Fortnite is finally upon us. The changes aren’t all pickaxes and outfits though, as the map itself has also been altered. The biggest destination changes include the addition of Risky Reels (a drive-in theater) in the upper right hand quadrant of the map, and the transformation from Dusty Depot into Dusty Divot—a giant crater hosting an on-site research setup like the one in Thor (this time it’s a meteor instead of a hammer). A sizeable mansion was also added cliff-side near Lonely Lodge. Other notable patch details are as follows:
- Item slots found in the locker now include an option to randomize your cosmetics and load screens.
- The Battle Pass now features season long challenges, allowing players to progressively work toward unlocking different parts of a cosmetic set or a mystery outfit.
- Found in and around crater crash sites are meteor fragments called Hop Rocks that lower avatar gravity when consumed, nulling fall damage and allowing for larger jumps.
- Sprays have been added as unlockable items, and can be equipped in the emote slots.
The superhero cinema theme effectively rides the hype-coattails of Marvel’s most recent Infinity War film. Outfits resembling Nighthawk and Vision are being offered up as unlocks through the Battle Pass, which can be purchased for 950 V-bucks (just shy of 10$ USD). Arguably the most popular game in the world, Fortnite doesn’t look like its going anywhere anytime soon.
