New Universal Century Gundam Projects Announced

Too Far Gone | Gundam NT

It’s time to get excited fellow New Types, a new Universal Century project has been announced for the Gundam franchise. On April 20 Sunrise, the company behind the ever popular Mobile Suit Gundam, live streamed the reveal of a new theatrical anime project in the Universal Century timeline. Mobile Suit Gundam NARRATIVE (NT) will take place in U.C. 0097 after the events of the “Laplace Incident,” the storyline of the OVA series Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.

The story follows Yona Bashuta, a 25 year old second lieutenant in the Earth Federation Space Forces who is the pilot of the Narrative Gundam. Following the events of Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn the RX-0 Unicorn disappears marking the end of the “Laplace Incident.” In this new storyline the RX-0 Unicorn 3 Phenex has mysteriously reappeared some years later, bringing with it a conflict previously thought to have ended some time ago.

Along with the announcement of Mobile Suit Gundam NT the livestream event also made it clear that Sunrise wanted to continue building on the Universal Century timeline. While not yet confirmed as “green-lit,” two other projects were spotted at the event: Mobile Suit Gundam: Hatthaway’s Flash and Mobile Suit Gundam UC2 (a tentative title). Hathaway’s Flash looks to be a film trilogy based on the three novel series of the same name by Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino. It follows the story of Hathaway Noa, son of the legendary captain Bright Noa, in the aftermath of Mobile Suit Gundam Char’s Counterattack.
