Late last week as part of the 2017 Golden Joystick Awards, Bandai Namco unleashed a new teaser for their upcoming hack and slash Code Vein. The game has been pegged by the community at large as “an anime Dark Souls.”
The new trailer, titled Misbehave, shows off gameplay interspersed amongst stylish cinematics and advance praise from some notable media outlets. Built with Unreal Engine 4 and helmed by Hiroshi Yoshimura (of God Eater: Resurrection) the game seems to aesthetically land alongside the likes of Bloodborne and Let It Die.
Code Vein‘s grim-future cityscape will pit players against demonic forces in a desperate battle for survival. Accompanying the uploaded footage is a paragraph’s worth of vague narrative details — totally in line with a trailer that seems to coyly tease the viewer. Code Vein feels sexy, its visceral imagery complimented by the cool voice whispering into your ear: “I’ll be your slave/I’ll misbehave.” Below you’ll find the story premise as outlined by Bandai Namco, along with the trailer itself. For fans of this genre and style, this will definitely be a game to keep on your radar. Code Vein is set to release in 2018 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity.
