Celebrating Pokémon’s 1000th Episode

Too Far Gone | Ash and Pikachu

It’s hard to believe that over 20 years ago Ash Ketchum set off on his adventure to become the very best Pokémon trainer that no one ever was… and it’s been a far-reaching journey ever since. The Pokémon animated series isn’t just a cartoon that became forgotten as audiences grew up, but rather one which translated and adapted to an ever expanding universe, welcoming new viewers as different regions were periodically unveiled through Nintendo’s various handheld titles. The series as a whole has 20 movies under its belt and is coming up on its 1000th episode, a landmark for any long-running franchise.

TV Tokyo is scheduled to broadcast the 1000th episode on November 9, 2017 (6:55PM JST). Afterward, on November 11, there will be a live event called “TV Anime 1,000th Broadcast!! Full Power! Pokémon School!” at the Sunshine City Fountain Square in the Japanese city of Ikebukuro. The event will include live appearances from the show’s notable voice actors and is set to be a celebration of everything the series has accomplished. Additionally, TV Tokyo is running a lottery-style gifting service for eight weeks leading up to the New Year. Some of the prizes include a limited edition Pikachu Nintendo 2DS XL, copies of the games Pokémon Ultra Sun/Pokémon Ultra Moon, and a Blu-ray of Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!. With Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon launching later this month, and Suicune hitting North American streets in Pokémon Go, it’s an exciting time to be a Pokémon fan.
