Violet Evergarden | Too Far Gone

Kyoto Animation, one of Japan’s top anime studios, has released a new preview for its upcoming Netflix show Violet Evergarden. Earlier this year it was reported that Netflix would be diving into the world of anime by helping develop new original content for its streaming platform.

Known for works like Free! Iwatobi Swim Club, K-On!, and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, KyoAni is regarded by many as a premier studio. Their new show Violet Evergarden will premier in January during the winter anime season of 2018 alongside Studio Deen’s  Junji Ito “Collection” and the Studio Trigger/A-1 Productions collaborative project DARLING in the FRANXX.

In Violet Evergarden, Auto Memory Dolls (read: artificial construct) resemble biological human females. Since childhood Violet, the titular doll, has been used as a living weapon. As the continent of Telesis entered a bloody and destructive four year war she found herself ensnared in its conflict. The war now ending, Violet finds herself pushed into civilian life by her companion Lieutenant Hodgins ,who longs for her to live a life free of violence and suffering. In such, she finds herself working for the CH Postal Service. Violet hopes that by connecting with people from all walks of life, she can find meaning to the words “I Love You,” the last words said to her by Major Gilbert before they were separated during the war.

Violet Evergarden will premiere in January 2018 on Netflix in Japan, with a worldwide release planned for spring later that same year.
