It seems to be fitting that during the spookiest time of year we would get more news on the Junji Ito “Collection” anime. For the uninitiated, Junji Ito is one of Japan’s most prolific horror authors – his work spanning over 30 nightmare inducing years. Known around the world for his disturbing body horror works, Ito is considered a legendary figure in the world of manga. Some video game fans may also recall that Ito was attached to the tragically cancelled Hideo Kojima Silent Hills project along with horror director Guillermo del Toro.
The Junji Ito “Collection”, as the name of the anime suggests, will be a collection of adaptations based on Ito’s works. The anime’s website revealed that it will draw from Itō Junji Kessaku-shū (Junji Ito Masterpiece Collection) which spans 11 volumes, and the book Fragments of Horror. Included with this announcement was a new visual which suggests the potential stories being adapted for the anime, these include, “Tomie,” “Fashion Model,” “Further Tales of Oshikiri,” “Souichi,” “Lovesick Dead”, and “Slug Girl.”
The site also revealed some of the staff working on the show including director Tagashira Shinobu (Diabolik Lovers) and Yuuki Hayashi composing (Boku no Hero Academia). Junji Ito “Collection” is set to premiere on Sunday January 7 2018 on Tokyo MX at 10:00pm JST.
